Green roofs and inverted roofs are solutions increasingly proposed by design firms, gaining popularity in modern construction. Designers and investors are turning to these options not only for their attractive appearance but also for the many practical benefits they offer buildings in densely built urban areas. The key feature of these solutions is placing the waterproofing layer beneath the thermal insulation. This means that the waterproofing is applied directly on the structural surface of the roof, with thermal insulation layered directly on top.
Advantages of Green Roofs
Green roofs are an excellent option for buildings located near taller structures from which the roof is visible. By covering the top floor with greenery, one can improve the aesthetic appeal of the landscape and enrich the urban ecosystem. Green roofs offer a range of benefits, such as:
- Reducing roof temperature in the summer, which contributes to the building’s energy efficiency,
- Air purification—green roofs help reduce pollution, which is particularly important in densely built urban areas,
- Noise reduction, enhancing the comfort of building occupants.
Inverted Roofs – Innovative Protection for Structures
Inverted roofs provide effective protection of building structures against water. Bitumer Sp. z o.o. offers a modern waterproofing system in this area, called Flexigum HydroBLOCK, applied hot (the so-called HOT MELT system). In this technology, waterproofing is applied to a primed substrate (Bitumer Primbit R) at a temperature of 150°C, creating a uniform and sealed protective layer.
Thanks to a high SBS polymer content, the waterproofing layer retains flexibility even at low temperatures. Flexigum HydroBLOCK is a seamless system, eliminating leakage risks and bridging structural cracks, which enhances the durability and reliability of the entire insulation.

Flexigum System Waterproofing Process
Below is the process for applying waterproofing for inverted roofs using the Flexigum System, recommended for applications requiring robust and long-lasting roof protection.
Green roofs and inverted roofs are modern solutions that combine functionality with aesthetics and positively impact the urban environment. With their numerous advantages, they are an attractive option for investors and designers focused on durability, energy efficiency, and improving the quality of urban spaces.
