Asphalt in bags – BITUMER DIPLAX – Cold MMA

Diplax is a special type of mineral and bituminous cold-applied mixture It can be used in any weather conditions between -20 oC to +60 oC. It is an out-of-the-box solution. Does not require any specialized equipment. Any rehabilitation work is waste-free, and the excess of the mix can be reused in different repairs.

Repair works do not cause traffic disruptions as repairs are carried out quickly, and the surface is immediately ready to use. Repair works can be carried out in any weather conditions, also in sub-zero temperatures after prior removal of ice, as well as during downpour without the need of removing water.

Cold-applied, for express, durable repair work of asphalt and concrete surfaces. Filling in defects after installation works: gas, hydraulic, electrical, etc. Allows to eliminate defects of any shape, depth and size.

Includes removing damaged surface sections and cleaning the defect of loose parts and debris. This phase of work requires removing chipped fragments of the surface around the area of repair. Edges should be

Damaged and cracked asphalt in the area of repair should be chipped off manually or with a jack hammer.

The chipped asphalt fragments should be removed from the repaired area and the surface should then be dusted off, for example with compressed air.

Priming of the filled defect is not required. However, using a primer increases the efficiency of the repairs due to increased adhesiveness of Diplax.

Repairs are carried out by filling the cavity with repair material. After the defect has been filled with DIPLAX, the mix layer undergoes preliminarily, manual compaction. It is recommended that the minimal depth of the repaired cavity be no less that 30 mm, and the maximum thickness of a single layer should not exceed 60 mm post-compaction. In case of deeper defects, it is recommended to fill the layers up to 100 mm deep. EMULBIT DIPLAX mix can be applied in the temperatures between -20°C – +40°C, except for periods of intense rainfall and snow. In order to ensure proper workability, it is recommended to use a mix not cooler than +5°C.

The mix can be compacted manually or mechanically. For manual compaction, a metal rammer up to 20 kg is used. For mechanical compaction, a plate compactor or a steel roller is used. In case of manual compaction, the thickness of the layers should not exceed 30 mm. To top surface of the compacted mixture should be located from 1 to 3 mm above the existing surface. The drop of the repair layer should be consistent with the drop of the repaired surface.

While working in temperature exceeding 20°C, the outer layer of the mixture should be gritted with 0.2 or 0.4 mm granulated sand. Do not cover the repaired cavity with asphalt binder. Bonding (hardening) of the mixture occurs after evaporation of the volatile components. Renovated fragments of the surface can be used immediately after repairs.

Cold patch asphalt in bags is a special substance the main purpose of which is coating small surfaces, as well as repair works and sealing potholes Asphalt in bags is especially effective in this type of road works when combined with conventional hot asphalt. Particular properties enable multiple case usage, when durability and speed are priorities.

Cold patch asphalt in bagsh

Cold patch asphalt in bags provides quick, high-grade repair of roads, pavements, and parking lots. This type of asphalt is economically efficient and quick to use. It does not require sophisticated equipment or any major preparatory work. This allows the work to commence almost immediately.

Cold patch asphalt in bags is used for patching and filling potholes and cracks in the roads. It is one of the most modern materials used for repair and construction work, whenever halting of traffic is impossible. It has diverse usage, including but not limited to:

  • • Foundation repairs;
    • Construction of road sections that are difficult to access;
    • Repair of surface water drains;
    • Building of manholes;
    • Rehabilitation of recreational areas and other small surfaces.
    Home owners often use cold patch asphalt for parking lots, verandah and gazebo floors, as well as laying paths and pavements. Since the mixture has long life expectancy, it is a perfect solution for periodic repairs.

Asphalt in bags – properties

Asphalt in bags, as the name suggests, comes in ready-made bags and can be used as both cold-pour and hot-pour, all year round. Cold pour asphalt properties include:

  • • Freeze resistance, adhesion to various surfaces in temperatures up to -25ºС;
    • Can be laid manually or mechanically in cold as well as hot state;
    • Does not require pre-heating;
    • Can be transported at any distance;
    • Has a long shelf life;
    • It is flexible and ductile.

Asphalt in bags – laying instructions Before proceeding to lay asphalt in bags,

the edges of the particular defect need to be prepared in advance. Then, dirt and dust from the surface area needs to be removed in order to improve adhesion. However it is not an obligatory step. The next step is to dry the surface with a torch, treat it with hot bitumen, and apply the asphalt in cold or hot technique – depending on individual predispositions. If the given pit is too deep, the cold asphalt needs to be laid in 3 – 4 layers, with each layer compacted after installing.
Thickness of the surface material depends on its purpose.
• In case of pavements, it is enough to lay a 3-4 cm layer.
• For traffic areas, the recommended thickness is at least 5-7 cm.
Cold-applied mix does not require compacting with heavy machinery . Simple technology of laying asphalt in bags ensures durability of the hot mix, and at the same time provides ease of use comparable to the one of asphalt mix with mineral fillers. Asphalt mix in bags is the pinnacle of quality, both in terms of the products used in production and methods of implementation. It is excellent in both simpler and more complex maintenance and construction works.
