Asphalt in bags – BITUMER DIPLAX – Cold MMA

Diplax is a special type of mineral and bituminous cold-applied mixture It can be used in any weather conditions between -20 oC to +60 oC. It is an out-of-the-box solution. Does not require any specialized equipment. Any rehabilitation work is waste-free, and the excess of the mix can be reused in different repairs.

Repair works do not cause traffic disruptions as repairs are carried out quickly, and the surface is immediately ready to use. Repair works can be carried out in any weather conditions, also in sub-zero temperatures after prior removal of ice, as well as during downpour without the need of removing water.

APPLICATION

1. PREPARING THE SURFACE

2. CHIPPING OFF CRACKED ASPHALT

Damaged and cracked asphalt in the area of repair should be chipped off manually or with a jack hammer.

3. CLEANING THE PREPARED SURFACE

The chipped asphalt fragments should be removed from the repaired area and the surface should then be dusted off, for example with compressed air.

4. PRIMING THE SURFACE WITH “EMULBIT SYNTETYK” PRIMING MATERIAL

Priming of the filled defect is not required. However, using a primer increases the efficiency of the repairs due to increased adhesiveness of Diplax.

5. LAYING OF THE EMULBIT DIPLAX REPAIR LAYER

Repairs are carried out by filling the cavity with repair material. After the defect has been filled with DIPLAX, the mix layer undergoes preliminarily, manual compaction. It is recommended that the minimal depth of the repaired cavity be no less that 30 mm, and the maximum thickness of a single layer should not exceed 60 mm post-compaction. In case of deeper defects, it is recommended to fill the layers up to 100 mm deep. EMULBIT DIPLAX mix can be applied in the temperatures between -20°C – +40°C, except for periods of intense rainfall and snow. In order to ensure proper workability, it is recommended to use a mix not cooler than +5°C.

6. COMPACTING THE EMULBIT DIPLAX MIX

The mix can be compacted manually or mechanically. For manual compaction, a metal rammer up to 20 kg is used. For mechanical compaction, a plate compactor or a steel roller is used. In case of manual compaction, the thickness of the layers should not exceed 30 mm. To top surface of the compacted mixture should be located from 1 to 3 mm above the existing surface. The drop of the repair layer should be consistent with the drop of the repaired surface.

7. MAINTENANCE AND SPECIFICATIONS

While working in temperature exceeding 20°C, the outer layer of the mixture should be gritted with 0.2 or 0.4 mm granulated sand. Do not cover the repaired cavity with asphalt binder. Bonding (hardening) of the mixture occurs after evaporation of the volatile components. Renovated fragments of the surface can be used immediately after repairs.

Asphalt in bags – laying instructions Before proceeding to lay asphalt in bags,

the edges of the particular defect need to be prepared in advance. Then, dirt and dust from the surface area needs to be removed in order to improve adhesion. However it is not an obligatory step. The next step is to dry the surface with a torch, treat it with hot bitumen, and apply the asphalt in cold or hot technique – depending on individual predispositions. If the given pit is too deep, the cold asphalt needs to be laid in 3 – 4 layers, with each layer compacted after installing.
Thickness of the surface material depends on its purpose.
• In case of pavements, it is enough to lay a 3-4 cm layer.
• For traffic areas, the recommended thickness is at least 5-7 cm.
